About

I'm a visual artist, predominantly working in photography and video.  Originally I made contemporary furniture for both public and private use.

My photographic practice is about staged sculptural spaces that I make and design in my workshop/studio at home in Sheffield, UK.  Through the use of symbolism and orderliness, my work is created out of personal interests, and is informed by a celebrative use of craft, spontaneity and decision making.  The organisation and composition refers back to my furniture making days, where function and form shared architectural detail.  With this in mind, my approach is always to form a language coherent with interpretation.

My videos are a muse of random landscapes and made-up scenarios that I collect and pamper together.  I mix soundtracks from my own electronic compositions and found sounds that relate to the world around me.

So for me, it's not about the meaning of something, it's about the making of it and developing my own way of understanding something.  To be able to go into the work, and take it to a point where it evolves into something I could never have originally imagined, is incredibly exciting.
